LiveUp: A scalable self managed CMS Solution

The Client

Anthologie, a purpose-led design and digital consultancy engaged Mechanical Rock to partner on a full CMS and Website rebuild for LiveUp - providing tailored care information for its users around Australia.

Anthologie’s creative and user centric strategy combined with Mechanical Rock’s strong experience in Infrastructure setup and Product Development saw the partnership deliver an amazing result to the customer.

The Challenge

The customer’s existing website had reached end of life running on an outdated Tech Stack which was not conducive to change. iLA expressed a strong desire to self manage content which was restricted with the current website tools, technology and development workflow.

Anthologie had worked extensively with the customer to create a design which would delight the tens of thousands of monthly visitors, and the partnership with Mechanical Rock would help make this a reality with the development and implementation of a website and delivery mechanism supportive of change.

The Solution

Development of a website architecture on AWS to AWS Best Practice with a focus on:

• Security
• Scalability
• Reliability
• Reusability

Integration of a CMS (Payload CMS) into AWS which allows the customer to self manage content.

Development of key website features, such as:

• Allowing tailored services and products based on the website user’s quiz responses
• Providing a comprehensive filter mechanism to allow website users access to related information
• Bulk upload ability to allow website content admins to manage content efficiently

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to support configurable, repeatable and reliable creation of environments.

Development of a CI/CD Pipeline to deploy changes in minutes into the staging environment with a series of automated quality gates.

End to end testing framework using Playwright to validate key user workflows.

Provision of Unit Test framework and development of key Unit Tests around filtering and query logic to provide assurance on key website functionality

The Benefits

Provisioning of a modern CMS on modern architecture has led to a performant, scalable and resilient content management solution which allows website authors to self manage website content in a simple to use UI removing the dependency on developer teams.

Implementation of Trunk Based Development and a CI/CD Pipeline ensures that infrastructure and code changes are deployed safely, reliably, and with minimum lead time. This allows website functional changes to be in the hands of users within minutes meaning that the business can respond to critical changes or deliver new functionality within minutes.

The Infrastructure as Code solution allows multiple environments to be managed via traditional configuration management tools such as GitHub. Environments can now be provisioned in minutes and torn down when not in use to save on hosting and infrastructure costs.

Automated tests through Unit and End to End Frameworks has reduced regression time to reduce the lead time of features being deployed into production.
