Snowvault: Turning fragmented enterprise documents into a governed AI knowledge platform
Secure, AI-powered document intelligence in the engineering, procurement and construction industry
Snowvault is an enterprise AI-powered knowledge management platform purpose-built for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) industry.
Founded in 2025 and headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, the Snowvault platform connects to a customer's existing document repositories, email systems and data stores, and transforms that content into a live, searchable, AI-powered knowledge layer that supports structured workflows, specialist agents and auditable work outputs.
Terabyte-scale knowledge locked away in fragmented systems
Organisations in the EPC industry were managing terabyte-scale document environments, consisting of technical reports, engineering documentation and compliance artefacts, that were spread across fragmented internal systems, with limited visibility across all documents at any given time.
As a result, employees were spending significant time locating information buried in high-density technical documents across fragmented systems before they could produce revenue-generating outputs such as tender responses, proposals and management plans.
As public generative AI tools became more accessible, a second risk emerged. To speed up document creation, employees were manually copying sensitive information out of internal documents and into external systems, exposing their organisations to data leaks and, with them, serious revenue and compliance risks.
To address this, Snowvault engaged the Mechanical Rock team to design and build the Snowvault platform from the ground up.
A knowledge platform purpose-built for the way the EPC industry works
Mechanical Rock designed and built the Snowvault platform as a multi-tenant generative AI SaaS platform that uses a secure Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) over confidential customer data. The result is a governed, enterprise-safe generative AI solution with:
- organisational-level ingestion of enterprise data across existing repositories,
- high-performance retrieval across dense technical documents,
- structured and repeatable workflows to faster tender, proposal and management plan outputs and,
- strict, permission-aware access to users within an organisation.
The platform operates on an organisation's existing systems such as SharePoint, Microsoft 365, project drives and email, rather than alongside them. This ensures the content stays where existing governance already applies and no shadow document store is created.
Built for security and data sovereignty
Snowvault's customers also required strict data segregation, no external third-party data processors, and no managed-service logging of their content.
To meet these requirements, Mechanical Rock built the platform AWS-native, using Amazon Bedrock with Australian inference profiles so that all prompts, responses and document content remain within Australian jurisdiction, protected by AWS KMS encryption and CloudTrail audit controls.
Faster, more consistent and governed document generation
For Snowvault's customers, the platform has reduced document creation time by 50–70% and improved retrieval speed by 80%. Document generation is now more consistent, higher quality, and no longer depends on a handful of subject-matter experts.
Just as importantly, Snowvault gives employees a governed, enterprise-safe way to use generative AI. By making the compliant path the fastest one, it removes the incentive to copy sensitive information into public tools.
Snowvault is a reflection of what Mechanical Rock builds best: cloud-native, secure-by-design software that solves a real, expensive problem. To see how Snowvault works, visit their website here.
